How to check your beverage's corrosivity?

Are you looking to fill your beverage in cans, but concerned about the possibility of corrosion? This guide will take you through the steps to check your beverage's compatibility and how to obtain a warranty certificate.

The various combinations of ingredients, such as active ingredients and acids, in your beverage could lead to a defective package and corrosion.  To avoid this issue, we offer the option to easily check the compatibility and coactions between your drink and our cans based on the can's inner lacquer and the product formula and obtain our can provider's certificate (Ardagh Metal Packaging) with a 6-12 month warranty directly on our platform.

This guide will teach you:

  • How to check your beverage's corrosivity
  • How to take full responsibility for filling the cans by accepting Waiver & Indemnity Agreement's terms and conditions
Note: Conducting proper testing beforehand can save time and money, as some beverages may be too corrosive for can filling. NOMOQ highly recommends following all testing procedures, including adjusting your product formula until a positive result is achieved. Please note that accepting Waiver & Indemnity Agreement's terms and conditions is optional and at your discretion. NOMOQ will not fulfil your order without completing a product corrosivity check or unless you take full responsibility for filling the cans. How to Check Your Beverage's Corrosivity:

To determine if your beverage is corrosive before placing an order, follow these steps:

  1. After your beverage is added, go to the "Beverage Corrosivity" section. (If you're not sure how to create it, check out our guide here).

    1. Beverage Corrosivity

  2. Fill out the base parameters check to see if your beverage qualifies to be filled in our cans without problems. The required parameters are determined by the product type.

    2. Check Corrosivity

  3. If your beverage does not meet the basic parameter check criteria, we'll ask you to download, fill out, and submit the BevForm, which includes more detailed questions about your beverage's formula.

    3. BevForm

  4. The BevForm will be sent to the Ardagh Lab, where experts will examine the formula and decide if the beverage qualifies for a certificate. You'll be notified about the BevForm check results.

Typically the BevForm results are available within 2 weeks from document submission. Additionally, it takes 2 weeks to issue the certificate based on the results.

  5. If the results are positive, you'll be recommended the right can type (BPANI or Epoxy) for your beverage, and your cans will be ready to order.

  6. If the results are not positive, we'll ask you to submit a liquid sample of your beverage to be examined by the Ardagh Lab. By default, you should send 1 liter of your beverage's liquid to the following address:

Ardagh Metal Beverage Holdings GmbH & Co. KG
    Laboratory - Samples for BCT
    Friedrich-Wöhler-Straße 51
    53117 Bonn
    Germany
Note: In some cases, 5 liters of the liquid sample should be sent. We'll inform you if that is the case.
  7. Once the liquid sample is submitted, experts will examine your beverage's formula and determine whether it qualifies to be safely filled in our cans.

Typically the test results are available in 4-6 weeks. Additionally, it takes 2 weeks to issue the certificate based on the results.
  8. If the results are positive, you'll be recommended the right can type (BPANI or Epoxy), and your cans will be ready to order.
  9. If the liquid test results are negative for filling in any of our can types, your beverage will be marked as "non-compatible", which means you won't obtain a certificate with a warranty from Ardagh. However, you will still be able to order the cans if you agree to the Waiver & Indemnity Agreement's terms and conditions, stating that you take full responsibility for filling the cans with your drink.

How to Take Full Responsibility for Filling the Cans by accepting Waiver & Indemnity Agreement's terms and conditions

At any stage of the Beverage Corrosivity Check, you have the option to sign a waiver stating that you take full responsibility for filling the cans.

  • Note: Conducting proper testing beforehand can save time and money, as some beverages may be too corrosive for can filling. For more details please check our General Terms and Conditions

To accept Waiver & Indemnity Agreement, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the "Beverage Corrosivity" section
  2. Scroll to the "Waiver and Indemnity Agreement" section.

    4. Waiver
  3. Read the terms & conditions of the Waiver & Indemnity Agreement
  4. Accept the terms and click "Confirm"
  5. You can now place an order for your cans

Note: If your product is not a non-beverage product, to order the cans, you'll have to accept Waiver & Indemnity Agreement terms and conditions since we're not able to check product parameters.

:::

If you'd still like to obtain a certificate with the warranty, even though you agreed to waive off the warranty, you'll be able to recheck your beverage's corrosivity on our platform. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the "Beverage Corrosivity" section

  2. Click "Recheck Beverage Corrosivity."

Note: Rechecking your beverage's corrosivity will invalidate the previously completed check or agreed waiver.

    5. Recheck Beverage Corrosivity

  3. Proceed with the Beverage Corrosivity Check where you left off.

How to upload an Ardagh Certificate if you already have one:

If you already have the certificate from Ardagh for your beverage, you can immediately upload it in the Beverage Corrosivity tab.

  1. Scroll down to the "Existing Certificate" section and upload your certificate.

    6. Certificate
  2. Wait for one of our NOMOQians to check the certificate's credibility.
  3. Once your certificate is checked, you will be able to order the cans.

Note: If you have a certificate that is not issued by Ardagh, you can send it directly to us along with the filled out BevForm. Ardagh will then decide whether, based on the certificate from the other company, your beverage will be compatible with NOMOQ Cans or if further examination is required.
